Thursday Things: A Few Fotos & ADAB Roundup

ADAB Roundup

I’m beginning to wonder if posting photos on my book-writing days is worthwhile.  It steals focus from my last written post.  But it’s nice to have something posted every day.  Some people put up one picture, a 17-word haiku or even less than that, and that’s it.   Plus I like sharing photos and snippets of my day for those who are interested.  But it’s hard to tell what interests you, Dear Reader.

So, tell me.  What is it that you want (what you really, really want)?  Is it more bike posts?  If so, what specifically?  Repairs, products, bike shops, people I meet?  Movies, food, personal sharing, about the book, political posts, random ones like about chocolate?  Or more posts about bike rides, which I’m doing less of to write?

Kale, lentils, brown rice, onions, orange pepper, ground turkey and avocado oil.
I saw this fun sign on my walk.  Maybe I’m undercover and don’t even know it?
I saw this Spielberg movie opening night, it was not sold out.  Pictures of poster by me.
Nerds never get girls in real life, so this movie is highly unrealistic.  Picture by me.

Very soon I will have to find a job and get back to work.  I don’t have anywhere near enough followers to merit getting ads.  Or who are willing to pour money into a GoFundMe page so that I can buy a new bike, pay my rent, mounting medical bills, groceries, and so on.  I simply have to take care of bidness (as some pronounce “business” in Texas), and like most writers, there is a day job that comes first.  Even if we don’t want it to.

Today’s 500 words took an awful long time, for some reason.  It’s hard to pick the words and tell the story, and then knowing that they’ll mostly all be changed in editing later is even more challenging.  But first-world problems.

So I may find myself unable to blog more than twice or even once a week while I keep working on the book.  That would be unfortunate, but after three months of daily posts, most of them written, not just photos, it’s been a pretty good run.  But the fake retirement that is unemployment, my “life of Reilly,” has to come to an end.  A Dude’s gotta eat, after all.  I’m very good at eating, and they say do what you’re good at.  Pass the cheese, please!

One piece of good news is that I have my first bike consulting victim, er, client coming up Saturday.  It’s really for practice so I will barter my time that I can use to cash in the next time I move, or something else.  We’ll see how it goes, if I’m able to add any value, and if that might lead to other opportunities down the road.  Hopefully I’ll have a good report on Monday.

Not much biking this week yet due to rain, fatigue and some laziness.  I’m sure I’ll put in another 30 before the week is over Sunday though to make my weekly 50, or more.  There’s a big ride out in the Hill Country this weekend that I went to last year, but not this one.  I’m not disappointed because that was hella work – a 90-mile day, mostly solo, then a 41-mile day.  That was no joke and very hilly, so I don’t miss repeating that sufferfest.  OK, just a little.

  1. Hi there, nice posts. Good to read from you. I think readers loves to read about places, food, people’s pictures, not always the bike. Maybe if the bike breaks, then we will laugh haha lol! Wishing you a Happy Easter! Take care of yourself!

    1. Thank you. This is why I vary it. Your blog is very nice, more about travel, food, etc. Experts say I should do only bikes to find more followers. I’m not so sure. Right now it doesn’t matter. Maybe when the book is done it might. Thanks!

  2. On those days when you just want to post something but may not have a great deal of time, I think a single pic with a short summary of your day/week would work. That way you’re giving us a journal entry and we know where you’re at (I like hearing about progress on the book).

I’m currently reading Ready Player One. About halfway through it and I am liking it a lot.

    Peace and best wishes
